E2010 in Your Town
No one size fits all | All too often, education models can feel a bit cookie-cutter in their approach. It's a mandate that is applied over a broad area, neglecting the fact that each community has its own identity. Our goal is to bring the entire community together and host a series of dialogs to identify unique issues and sustainable ways to respond to those issues.
The Dialog | E2010's Signature Series | This is a three-part discussion lead by a distinguished and diverse panel that focuses on the achievement gap, issues that youth face day-to-day in and out of school, and successful students ready to compete in the global society of the 21st century.
Through the use of informal breakout sessions, discussion subtopics support each theme and include critical issues such as does race matter, education and the economy, the pipeline from high school to prison, how to decrease the high school dropout rate, the multilingual classroom, student achievement and low expectation within and outside the school, social promotion, providing quality equal access to the best learning tools and resources, students with disabilities and more. After each dialogue, we leave behind foot prints consisting of ongoing activities to address the needs identified.
Other activities include
Parent/Guardian Empowerment. Navigating the education system on all levels, including the political process and working together with unions.
People's Voices. Ongoing dialog with candidates running for political office and elected officials. Instead of the standard campaign speech, participants share concerns, potential solutions and updates on new laws and how they will impact the education system. We often ask elected officials to share how participants can get involved in the legislative process.
TownTalk. Radio talk show all about education to provide a broader platform for an open discussion.
Lobby 101. How to monitor, lobby and testify at the state legislature.
